INAUGURAL ATHLETES TO END ALZHEIMER’S 5K RUN/WALK A SUCCESS

August 3, Ocean View, DE – On hot and sunny August 2, 2015, the inaugural Athletes to End Alzheimer’s 5k Run/Walk, presented by Loftus Wealth Strategies, was an incredible success, with over 700 participating runners and walkers. The race benefited the Alzheimer's Association Delaware Valley Chapter and the fundraising goal of $15,000 is nearing fruition since donations are still coming in.
Michael Loftus, of Loftus Wealth Strategies, a wealth management and financial planning business in Millville, was the event organizer. According to the Alzheimer’s Association, Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior; the life-interfering symptoms worsen over time and there is no cure.
“We hoped to raise $15,000 for treatment, research and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s and their caregivers,” said Loftus.“We are just so close to the goal, so I want to thank the runners, sponsors, and volunteers who helped make the inaugural event a smashing success. The dollars you helped to raise will directly benefit the work of the Alzheimer’s Association.”
Some runners even created their own fundraising team to augment their dollars to donate. The winning fundraiser was Mary Harmon, from Dagsboro, of Team Studio 26 and Friends. Mary and her husband JT raised nearly $1,000 and Mary was rewarded with the coveted #1 bib number. Team Studio 26 and Friends together raised more than $1300. “Alzheimer’s disease is a terrible disease and we are committed to helping find a cure and to assist those who require treatment and care in the meantime. It was our pleasure to help raise money and to run in this beautiful town for a cause near and dear to our hearts. I challenge everyone to sign up next year, wear a purple tutu, and to join us in the fight against Alzheimer’s,” said Harmon.
The 2016 race is already on the books for Sunday, August 7, 2016. For more details, including race results, visit www.alzrun.com. For more information about the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter, visit alz.org/delval.
