Georgetown Farmers Market to host Brick Hotel's chef demonstration Aug. 19
The Georgetown Farmers Market will host Mark Buchanan, head chef at the Brick Hotel in Georgetown, in a cooking demonstration at 3 p.m., Wednesday, Aug. 19.
Buchanan will be cooking with ingredients from the market vendors. “I have been the chef at the Brick Hotel on the circle for three-and-a-half years, and been in the business for almost 28. My favorite quote is from Julia Child, 'You don’t have to cook fancy or complicated masterpieces, just good food from fresh ingredients.'"
The county seat of Sussex County, Georgetown now boasts one of the largest farmers markets on the culinary coast. Hosted by the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and 16 Mile Brewing Company, the market has over 20 vendors and hundreds of patrons each week with beers in hand, and there is no sign of the growth stopping anytime soon.
Christel Folke, the market master, introduces fun, new attractions to the market frequently in order to grow exposure and appeal to many age groups. “We hosted a kids' day last week with face painting, fire truck rides, story time, and gourd painting. Over 200 people joined us with their families; it was our most successful market day yet,” said Folke.
The market is held from 3 to 6 p.m. every Wednesday on the grounds of 16 Mile Brewery at 413 South Bedford St. in Georgetown, Delaware.
