Dangerous bike path must be corrected

September 4, 2015

I am writing to ask you to look into a very serious road hazard which the DelDOT creation of a bike path from Gills Neck Road near Breakwater Community to Gills Neck Road near the Freeman Highway Bridge in Lewes has caused.

Both exit points are obscured from auto traffic on Gills Neck Road. At one end there is the bridge abutment, and at the other end high vegetation blocks the view of both cyclists and drivers.

I strongly suggest the installation of barriers at both ends of this path to ensure that cyclists do not blindly enter the roadway. Such barriers are commonplace in Europe for the protection of riders.

Two simple PVC pipe barriers offset to force bikers to stop, get off their bikes and look both ways before entering the roadway - which incidentally does not have a bike path - could save lives.
