Harley J. Truitt, Perdue Farms retiree

Harley J. Truitt, 61, of Gumboro, passed away Saturday, Sept. 5, 2015, at home.

He was born Dec. 14, 1953, in Berlin, Md., to the late Robert William Truitt Sr. and Doris Mae Baker Truitt, who survives him. He was a retired packing technician for Perdue Farms Inc. He liked NASCAR, and was a Kasey Kahne fan. He enjoyed horse racing, and was an avid bowler in the club at Millsboro Lanes. He was a very quiet person, who was sensitive to the needs of his family. He lived by the motto that “his business was his, and your business was yours.”

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister: Millie Truitt Bunting of Gumboro; and two brothers: Danny Truitt and his wife Ellie of Bishopville, Md. and Mike Truitt and his wife Lorraine of Berlin, Md. He also is survived by six nieces and nephews: Tracy Steele, Tina Bunting, Stacy, Thomas and Brooks Truitt, Jennifer Booth and Amy Truitt. There are five great-nieces and -nephews: Paul, Daniel, Benjamin, Carly and Ethan. Harley was preceded by a brother: Bobby Truitt Jr., in 2005.

A graveside service will be held at Carey’s Cemetery Sunday, Sept. 20, at 3 p.m., with Pastor Mike Deisem officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Harley’s memory to: The Sonrise Church, Building Fund, 10959 Worcester Hwy., Berlin, MD 21811.
