Kenneth K. Kelly, chemical engineer
Kenneth Kevin Kelly, 78, “Pop Pop Beach's" life’s journey ended at home, peacefully in his sleep Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015. He was born Feb. 22, 1937, in Frostburg, Md., to the late Francis Patrick Kelly and Agnes Leona (Ryan) Kelly.
Mr. Kelly was a graduate of Beall High School in Frostburg and Frostburg University with a degree in chemistry.
He served his country for eight years in the U.S. Naval Reserve and last worked for Lockheed Engineering and Science Company as a senior environmental scientist. Mr. Kelly was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bethany Beach and the local AARP chapter.
He loved to read, build and refinish wood furniture and listen to music. He also enjoyed traveling and attended both local and Broadway theaters. He was especially fond of and supported the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Kelly is survived by his wife of 51 years, Carolyn K. Kelly. He is also survived by his two children and five grandchildren, a son, Keith K. Kelly and his wife Desirá and their three children, Gavin, Hayden and Madelynn; and a daughter, Kristin Kelly Glassman and her husband John, and their two children, Kemper and Brooks.
A visitation was held Friday, Nov. 27, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, Ocean View. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, Nov. 28, at St. Ann Catholic Church, Bethany Beach. Interment followed at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Dagsboro.
