Jeanne W. Tribbitt, former governor's widow

Jeanne Webb Tribbitt, 93, of Rehoboth, formerly of Odessa, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2016, at Brandywine Assisted Living in Rehoboth Beach.

She was born April 23,1922, to the late Elmer Sherman and Blanche Cleaver Webb.

Jeanne graduated from Middletown High School in 1940 and then attended Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, Va. While at college, she met and later wed the love of her life, former Gov. Sherman W. Tribbitt.

She treasured her family and her many friends. She took great joy in serving as the First Lady of Delaware. She hosted many a party and enthusiastically fulfilled each and every duty of being the First Lady. Jeanne was an avid homemaker with the utmost style. Her top priority was making a beautiful home for her family. She was an excellent homemaker, cook, host, gardener, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She took great joy in all of her many roles.

Jeanne served on many boards and committees and she was especially proud of her role in the SPCA.  She spent endless hours helping to make Christmas in Odessa and Dover Days the successes that they have become.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her husband former Gov. Sherman W. Tribbitt; her parents; and her sister, Marion Webb Steenson.

She is survived by her daughter: Carole Tribbitt Suchanek and her husband Phil of Rehoboth Beach; and her two sons: James (Jim) Mackenzie Tribbitt and his wife Sharon of Odessa and Sherman (Tip) Webb Tribbitt and his wife Wendy of Wilmington. Jeanne is also survived by her brother: Sherman (Skip) Webb and his wife Kate of Columbia, S.C.; four grandchildren: Lisa Clarke and her husband Jay of Baltimore, Md., Ashley Diehl and her husband Jeremy of Lewes, Mackenzie Tribbitt of Las Vegas, Nev. and Ria Tribbitt of Wilmington; and five great–grandchildren: Grace, Lindsay, Austin, Landon and Ally.

Services and burial will be held privately by the family.
