The Smyrna gymnasium was rocking at the Eagles Alumni Night Feb. 12, as the large and vocal crowd was treated to a close 32-26 match win over visiting Cape.
"I thought we could win eight matches," said Cape coach Chris Mattioni. "We won seven. I guess it wasn't to be that night. We out-wrestled them and everything broke our way until the last matches."
Cape's wins came from Joel Torres at 220, Anthony Caruso at 113, Max Norquest at 126, Vinnie Diego with a pin at 128, Jose Ascencio at 145, Dante Jacquet at 152 and Chris Handlin at 170.
Cape was ahead 26-20, when Smyrna won the last two matches.
"We may meet [Smyrna] again in the state duals Tuesday, Feb. 16," said Mattioni.
