Bayhealth Wound Care Center Receives National Recognition

August 21, 2019

Bayhealth is pleased to announce that for the second consecutive year, the Wound Care Center at Bayhealth Hospital, Kent Campus was recognized with the Robert A. Warriner III, MD, Center of Excellence Award. Given by Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services, the award goes to centers that achieve certain benchmarks.

First, they need patient satisfaction rates higher than 92 percent. They also must have a healing rate of at least 91 percent in less than 30 median days to heal for at least two consecutive years. The 2018 data for the Bayhealth Wound Care Center at the Kent Campus that resulted in them achieving this national recognition included a:

  • 96 percent patient satisfaction rate
  • 95 percent healing rate
  • 27 day-median healing rate

“It is such an honor for our center to receive this award again,” said Wound Care Center Program Director Julie Willey, RN. “We had some challenges this year, but we were able to overcome them with the dedication of our entire team and support from the rest of Bayhealth.”

For example, Willey says Wound Care Center Clinical Nurse Manager Arleatta Hawkins, RN, led the clinical team to outstanding outcomes, delivering the best patient care and healing. She added that Senior Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive Brenda Blain, DNP, RN-BC, FACHE, NEA-BC, continuously supported the center throughout the year, which helped drive it and the staff to their top potential.

Named for Dr. Robert A. Warriner III, a pioneer in wound care and the former chief medical officer for Healogics, the award was given to 342 centers, including Bayhealth’s; just 413 of the nearly 700 centers in the Healogics network were eligible.

“We love serving our community and reaching patients to help improve their quality of life. Receiving recognition like this demonstrates our commitment to the Bayhealth community,” said Willey.
