Beat the Winter Blahs With These Early January Activities in the Coastal Region
The next couple of months here in the coastal region are obviously going to be a bit slower in terms of large annual festivals and events, with a few glaring exceptions like Bethany Beach’s Fire & Ice Festival in a few weeks, the annual Polar Bear Plunge in early February and the always delicious Rehoboth Beach Chocolate Festival in March.
But just because it’s the middle of winter doesn’t mean there isn’t still plenty to do at the Delaware and Maryland beaches. In fact, if you live here full-time, this is a perfect opportunity for you to get outside and enjoy your favorite local restaurants without the crowds, or go for a relaxing stroll on the Boardwalk or even take in a show at one of the region’s fine local theaters.
There’s always something happening at and near the beaches, so don’t let a little bit of cold weather keep you inside and from enjoying all that the region has to offer.
And you never know! There’s bound to be a few days of “Indian Summer” coming up, a couple of which have already occurred and provided even better opportunities for enjoying great local activities.
So with all of that in mind, we’re going to give you a few ideas for getting out and about during the weekend of January 4-6 here in the coastal region.
Let’s take a look:
Escape Rehoboth. The coastal region’s premier escape room has been all the rage for the last couple of years, mimicking the surge in popularity in the activity nationwide. In the “Nation’s Summer Capital,” you’ll need to find hidden objects and figure out clues in one hour in order to earn your freedom.
There are four very different and very unique rooms to choose from. This is a great activity to enjoy with your family and/or friends, so why not try it out in the offseason when it’s a bit less crowded?
Hours for this weekend are Friday from 4:30 to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 10 p.m.

Shell We Bounce. Do the kids have a little excess energy built up that they can’t get out of their systems during the winter months? Shell We Bounce, just west of Five Points in Lewes, has the perfect cold weather solution for you.

Lefty’s Alley & Eats. The addition of Lefty’s Alley & Eats a couple of years ago added a new level of indoor entertainment for the coastal region, and is the perfect solution for beating the wintertime blues.
You can enjoy bowling of course at Lefty’s, but other options include laser tag, a full arcade, some great food and a full bar. In other words, there’s a little something for everyone!
Lefty’s hours for this weekend are Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 am., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m.
