Delaware State Fair Headlines This Weekend's Events Calendar

July 21, 2021

We know the vast majority of people who read our "Weekender Blog" like to stay pretty close to the beaches this time of year. And we get it, we're right there with you most days.

But the final 10 days of July also features the 102nd annual Delaware State Fair just a short drive north in Harrington. And after a vastly scaled down event in 2020, organizers are hoping for a fantastic state fair run in 2021.

There’s plenty of time to get to the fair this year and a great selection of things to see and do. So pick a day, pack up the car and be part of the 2021 Delaware State Fair.

And don't forget the rest of the events featured over the next few days as well. On that note, let's get right to the heart of this week's coming events blog.

We begin, as promised, at the Delaware State Fairgrounds in Harrington:

Delaware State Fair (July 22-31)

The always fun and exciting Delaware State Fair kicks off this Thursday, July 22, and continues for its normal 10-day run through Saturday, July 31.

This year's event is dubbed "Your Passport to Summer Fun" and is largely back to normal after a drastically scaled back event in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.

That said, organizers are encouraged individuals who have not yet received the coronavirus vaccine to socially distance and mask up.

Several of the headline acts scheduled for this year have had to be cancelled due to the uncertainty at the time of booking in regards to coronavirus restrictions. But some are still on the docket, as well as all of the normal things you've come to expect at the fair.

General admission tickets to the fair this year cost $9.50 for anyone 13 years of age and older and $4.50 for children between the ages of 6 and 12. Children under 5 years old are admitted for free.

General parking is free, but $20 VIP parking can be purchased on a daily basis.

Some of the highlights for 2021 include the always popular demolition derby on July 25, Riley Green on July 26, Tracy Byrd on July 27 and 38 Special on July 30.

Jurassic Fest (July 24)

Hudson Fields near Milton is the site this Saturday evening for a fun family event entitled "Jurassic Fest."

Presented by the Revival House, proceeds from the event will benefit Beebe Healthcare and all of the great work being down at coastal Delaware's premier healthcare facility.

The event, which builds on the success of last year's "Jawsfest,"  begins at 5 p.m. and will feature plenty of food, some great live music, a specially prepared brew from Revelation Craft Brewing and lots of other family-fun activities.

The evening concludes with a showing of "Jurassic Park" on the big screen, which should begin at around 8:30 p.m.

Hope Floats (July 24)

Speaking of children, the Children's Beach House in Lewes will be hosting their annual "Hope Floats" event this Saturday, July 24, from 6 until 9:30 p.m.

This is a great opportunity to support the great work that's always happening at the Children's Beach House.

This "Beach Casual Party" will once again feature an open bar, as well as some tantalizing coastal cuisine and live music from Bob Yesbek and the 2nd Time Around band.

Several luxury experiences will also be auctioned off, with all proceeds going to help improve the lives of area children and their families.
