Family Friendly Outdoor Events and Happenings Dominate Early October’s Weekend Calendar

September 30, 2020

We welcome October with a bang this weekend with a number of great events and happenings on the calendar. There are several fun things to tell you about here in the coastal region and we’re excited to share the details of each and every one of them.

It stands to reason that most of our featured events this weekend are being held outdoors, which gives organizers more flexibility in adhering to the COVID-19 restrictions that are currently in place in both states.

A lot of what’s going on over the next few days centers on historic Lewes and outdoor events that are planned for the “First Town in the First State.” So if you’re in the neighborhood, stop by and have a great time at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

But while most of what we’re featuring this week is outdoors, we’re kicking things off with a popular annual event that’s moving to a virtual model for 2020.

Keep reading below for more on this event and a half dozen other fun weekend options in both southern Delaware and coastal Maryland. And then make your plans for a fun-filled few days at the beach!

Virtual Coast Day (October 4). The annual Coast Day Festival will be a virtual event for 2020 due to continuing COVID-19 related health restrictions in the state of Delaware.

As always, the event is hosted by the Delaware Sea Grant College Program at the University of Delaware campus in Lewes. Activities this year are scheduled for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., on Sunday, October 4.

Coast Day 2020 will feature a number of at home science demonstrations, family craft projects that can be shared on social media and other activities that are designed to help children and parents learn about the Delaware coast.

Fall Craft Fair in Lewes (October 3-4). Visit the Lewes Historical Society this weekend for the 2020 Fall Craft Fair, held at the organization’s historic campus on Shipcarpenter Street downtown.

Hours for this year’s event are Saturday, October 3, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, October 4, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Admission is $5 a person, with children under 12 admitted for free.

All proceeds from the craft fair will be used to fund educational and preservation programs at the Lewes Historical Society. Featured during the day will be on-site vendors, live music and plenty of food options.

Sidewalk Sales in Rehoboth Beach, Dewey Beach and Lewes (October 2-4). Downtown merchants in all three northern beach communities will be holding outdoor sidewalk sales this Friday to Sunday, with lots of deals sure to be found.

Get a head start on your Christmas shopping or just enjoy browsing outdoors between Friday, October 2, and Sunday, October 4.
