(New Castle, DE) On July 1, 2013, Frontier’s low-fare, friendly service will officially begin commercial air service to Delaware , offering five new nonstop routes from New Castle’s Wilmington/Philadelphia Airport (ILG) to Chicago-Midway; Denver; Houston; Orlando and Tampa, as well as offer connecting service via Denver to destinations across the west, including Alaska, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. Frontier is the only airline providing scheduled service from New Castle’s Wilmington/Philadelphia Airport, just a short drive from downtown Philadelphia. The first flight is scheduled to depart at 7:30A bound for Chicago-Midway (MDW).
Customers who fly Frontier will find the best prices, more choices, and better perks when booking with Frontier. “We’re excited that Frontier Airlines has chosen to bring its low-fare, quality service to the residents and visitors to the Delaware Valley region,” said Stephen Williams, Airports Director for the Delaware River and Bay Authority, operator of the Airport. “We believe Frontier’s decision to schedule daily flights here illustrates the airport’s appeal to the low cost airline community.” Frontier will use 168-seat Airbus A320 aircraft to serve the region.
Since Frontier’s announcement to begin commercial air service to Delaware in early April, the number one public inquiry deals with parking. Currently, three lots are available for passenger parking, the Front Lot, Rear Lot and Remote Lot. The Front Lot contains more than 200 available parking spots while the newly constructed Rear Lot behind the terminal has a parking capacity of 300. The third lot, known as the Remote Lot, located at the former site of the Air Transport Command restaurant, has space for more than 150 vehicles.
The parking lots are well-lit. The Authority constructed a pedestrian walkway for customers parking in both the rear and remote lots, directly connecting these lots with the entrance of the terminal. If you opt not to park your vehicle at the airport, a convenient passenger drop off station is located in front of the terminal. In addition, taxi service, Delaware Express shuttle van service and DART Transit busses route 22 and 25 will also be available.
“The Wilmington Airport is all about convenience. It is in a perfect location between Philly and Baltimore that offers customers the option to forego the hassles of a big city airport”, adds Williams. “We want to be the airport of choice for people in Delaware, South Jersey, Pennsylvania and Maryland who seek both low fares and a convenient airport experience”. Currently, all parking is free. However, the airport does plan to charge a reasonable fee for both short and long term parking in the Fall. Parking fees will be used to finance additional parking availability.
