A Half Dozen Fantastic Fall Festivals Scheduled For This Weekend in the Coastal Region

September 11, 2019

The 2019 fall festival season continues this weekend with a half dozen events that we think you’re definitely going to want to check out here in the coastal region.

The weekend’s calendar is as eclectic as it comes, with huge fall events in several of the region’s favorite beach resorts. From Ocean City all the way north to Milford, this is a great few days to get outside and enjoy all that Delaware and Maryland’s coastal region has to offer.

Now, on to the events we’re featuring for the weekend of September 13-15 at the Delaware and Maryland beaches. We begin in Milford and one of the biggest events of the fall…

Riverwalk Freedom Festival (September 14). One of the biggest events of September is planned for this Saturday, September 14, just a short drive from the Delaware beaches in the city of Milford.

The 2019 Riverwalk Freedom Festival, enjoying its 19th year, is one of the larger outdoor festivals of the fall season and is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford.

It’s scheduled to run from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., with planned activities that include food trucks, a pet parade, a beer garden, a car show, live bands and a fireworks display at dusk.

Balloons Over Sussex (September 14-15). Visit the Delaware Coastal Airport near Georgetown this weekend for the 2019 Balloons Over Sussex hot air balloon festival.

More than a dozen hot air balloons will be filling the skies above the airport, with plenty of activities scheduled throughout the two days of the event.

A fundraiser for the Sussex Academy Foundation, parking is free at the Delaware Coastal Business Park but there is an admission price to the festival of $10 for adults and children 10 years of age and older. Children under 10 are admitted for free.

Activities for the festival include passenger flights (for a fee), tether balloon rides, kids’ activities, entertainment, plenty of food and vendors and much more.

Festival Hispano (September 15). Again being held in the Kimmeytown area of Georgetown, the 2019 Festival Hispano is the largest event of its kind in southern Delaware and is always extremely well attended.

Coordinated by La Esperanza, there are usually more than 40,000 people who descend on the Sussex County Seat for this celebration of the Hispanic community.

Scheduled activities and events include Latin music and dances, traditional arts and crafts and a huge amount of Latino cuisine and traditional food choices.
