Lewes Tulip Festival Blooms for the 13th Time in Early April

March 30, 2022

Tulips are in bloom in Lewes this week and that means the calendar is switching to April in Rehoboth Beach, Ocean City and in other resort towns and communities throughout the region.

The weather's been a bit fickle lately but brighter and warmer days are coming. And why not celebrate the arrival of April by touring the "First Town in the First State" and taking in the many scents, sounds and sights of the season.

We of course have much more to tell you about this week than just the tulip celebration, but that's our headliner because of its significance as the gateway into spring at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

Other notable events this weekend are in Rehoboth Beach, St. Michael's, Ocean City and Annapolis.

Pick your favorite and have a great early spring weekend in Rehoboth Beach, Ocean City or wherever you happen to be.

Enjoy!

Lewes Tulip Celebration (April 1-17)

Jointly sponsored by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and the folks at Lewes in Bloom, this 13th annual explosion of color in the "First Town in the First State" is scheduled for April 1-17.

Thousands of tulips are expected to sprout up around town for this annual celebration of spring, with peak blooms depending on Mother Nature.

More than 100 varieties of tulips will be on display, which can be identified via the "Tiptoe To The Tulips" map available at the Lewes Chamber of Commerce's visitor center in Zwaanendael Park.

If you'd like to buy tulips to take home with you, Lewes in Bloom will be selling them from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on April 15 and 16. The location is the Bank Street Plaza on historic Second Street.

302 Beer Drinkers' Choice Awards (April 3)

Wilmington Brew Works will be in Lewes this weekend defending its "Best Beer" title from 2021, as the Crooked Hammock again hosts the annual 302 Beer Drinkers' Choice Awards.

Breweries from throughout Delaware will be at the Crooked Hammock on Sunday, April 3, from 1 to 5 p.m., with awards given in categories ranging from "Fan Favorite Beer" to "Most Unique Beer," "Best Edible Necklace" and more.

The ticket price of $39 online or $45 at the door gives attendees a chance to vote on more than two dozen Delaware beers. They'll also receive a commemorative glass, have the chance to dress up with friends and enjoy what organizers are calling "more sudsy silliness than one group of beer lovers could possible handle."

Participating breweries for 2022 include Wilmington Brew Works, Dewey Beer Company, Big Oyster Brewery, Iron Hill Brewery, Dogfish Head Brewery, Crooked Hammock Brewery and several others.
