Local Light Displays Opening for the 2021 Holiday Season This Weekend

November 17, 2021

We may still be a week from Thanksgiving, but the Christmas season essentially kicks off this weekend as several of the region's holiday spectaculars debut for 2021.

The Winter Wonderfest in Lewes, the Winterfest of Lights in Ocean City and the Schellville Enchanted Winter Celebration in Rehoboth Beach will all be holding their 2021 grand openings over the next few days.

We cover all three of these festive holiday events in our latest Weekender Blog below, as well as several other happenings being held throughout Delaware. Mix in an event we just couldn't resist in Baltimore and a couple of fun holiday-themed events in southeastern Pennsylvania and it all makes for a fantastic pre-Turkey Day weekend throughout the region.

Keep reading below and make your plans for some great family fun between November 19 and 21.

Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Winter Wonderfest 2021 Opening (November 19)

Southern Delaware's most popular holiday event kicks off this Friday, November 19, at the Hudson Fields complex near Milton.

Held for years at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal before outgrowing that site, this is now the third year the Wonderfest has been held at Hudson Fields.

The dominant feature of this festive holiday event is a mile-long car ride, which includes lots of great light displays for everyone to enjoy. After a scaled down version in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, the 2021 event also includes things like hayrides, concessions and visits with Santa Claus.

The Winter Wonderfest has raised more than a half a million dollars for local charities since its first year in 2016, with a goal of raising $75,000 in 2021.

Winter Wonderfest runs through Sunday, January 2, and is open daily from 5 to 10 p.m. Admission prices are $20 Mondays through Wednesdays and $25 Thursdays through Sundays.

Schellville Enchanted Winter Celebration Opening (November 20)

Widely expanded for 2021, this special holiday event is organized and managed by Schell Brothers and offers a nice selection of fun, family friendly activities for the holiday season.

Schell Brothers announced widespread community support and sponsors for 2021, which has allowed for a much larger celebration.

Some of the highlights for this year include 18 miniature houses filled with toys and activities, two Schellville Express trains, a new roller rink and skate path, a Snow Zone where you can enjoy a snowball fight with your friends and a beer garden by Revelation Craft Brewing Co.

There will also be visits with Santa Claus, live entertainment at the Snowflake Stage, a Ho Ho Ho Hospitality Tent, several local food trucks and much more.

All activities are free, with the exception of skate rentals, food concessions and shopping.

The Schellville Enchanted Winter Celebration is located behind Tanger Outlets Seaside and will be open Thursdays through Sundays from November 20 through December 31 from 5 to 9 p.m.
