Spring will officially start on March 19th this year, which is earlier due to it being leap year.  On Sunday the 10th, some of us had to set our clocks forward for daylight savings time.  Longer days mean more sunlight, which can have positive effects on our health and well being.  Sunlight stimulated the production of serotonin in the brain, which his linked to increased energy, better mood and improved sleep quality.  Sunlight exposure for jut 5-15 minutes can also boost Vitamin D levels in the body.  In addition, sunlight on your skin triggers the release of nitric oxide, which can improve heart health by reducing blood pressure.  After spending long winter months indoors, it’s important to enjoy the sun in moderation.  You can take a daily walk, have a picnic, or plant some flowers.  Opening windows will let in fresh air and light. Older adults could benefit the most from sun exposure, so make sure your aging loved ones get outside and soak up some sun.
