Still Want to Celebrate New Year’s Eve? Here are a Dozen Quality Options for Doing So Virtually This Year!

December 30, 2020

While planning our latest “Weekender Blog” yesterday, we asked people what they were doing for New Year’s Eve this year. Most are staying home, which is pretty much what we expected, but we did get a chuckle out of one particular response:

“Our New Year’s Eve party this year is just going to be in our living room. But I haven’t decided yet what I’m going to wear.”

If that doesn’t sum up 2020 perfectly, then we don’t know what does!

With all of the challenges that have made this year one of the most memorable on record, we have no doubt there’s just as many people celebrating the end of 2020 as ones who are welcoming 2021.

But in a fitting end to a challenging year, most of these celebrations are being held either virtually or in very small groups of friends and immediate family members.

We get it, it’s not ideal. You could even say it sucks! New Year’s Eve is usually the biggest party night of the year, a chance to celebrate the ending of one year and the clean slate that signifies the beginning of the next.

But COVID-19 has changed that for 2020, with officials prohibiting the kinds of large gatherings that are synonymous with New Year’s Eve. But that doesn’t mean we can’t all still celebrate!

As we’ve done frequently in 2020, we choose to focus on the positive and on what we actually can do this weekend instead of what we can’t. While most of it will be virtual, there are still opportunities for welcoming the new year in style here at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

These events are not being held in the local area, but you can still get in on the fun via the Internet. So let’s look at a few options…

New York City Ball Drop. Times Square will be empty this New Year’s Eve for the first time in decades, but the ball is still going to be dropped and there’s still lots of partying to do. It will just be virtually this year instead of in the center of the Big Apple.

For years the most popular New Year’s Eve party in the United States, things are going to look and feel a bit different Thursday night in the country’s largest city. But viewers online can still enjoy live performances and fireworks, as well as the famous ball drop.

If you’d like to take it all in, you can do so by clicking here and getting ready for the show on Thursday evening.

Las Vegas “In With A Boom” Celebration. Perhaps the most fitting celebration for New Year’s Eve 2020 is a chance to virtually blow up the year and start fresh on January 1, 2021.

If you agree, the City of Las Vegas has just the thing for you. But you’ll need to stay up a bit past midnight Eastern Standard Time for this one.

This unique celebration features a virtual explosion that includes a 2020 sign being blasted into oblivion when the clock strikes midnight Pacific Time on Thursday night.

You could even win a free trip to Las Vegas by watching. So if you’re still awake at 3 a.m., this could be one that’s worth checking out.

KISS 2020 Goodbye Virtual Concert. If you’re a fan of the rock group KISS, or even if you’re not and just looking for a fun way to welcome in the new year, this is the concert for you.

The famous rock bank will be holding a virtual concert on New Year’s Eve, inviting everyone to help them “KISS 2020 Goodbye!”
