Things to Do This Weekend at Delaware & Maryland Beaches

August 3, 2022

It's hard to believe that we're only about a month away from Labor Day and the end of the official summer season here at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

It's definitely been a great summer so far and we hope you've been able to get out and enjoy all that the coastal region has to offer over these last two or three months.

There are several great opportunities for getting outside and enjoying time with friends and family members over the next few days, many of which we're going to tell you about in just a moment.

From an international softball competition in Roxana to a million-dollar fishing tournament in Ocean City and much more, we have you covered for this first weekend of August at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

Let's get started!

Senior League Softball World Series (August 4-7)

After a two-year hiatus due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Senior League Softball World Series returns to coastal Delaware in 2022 with 10 teams from around the world competing for the title.

For the first time, the host team from Lower Sussex Little League is representing Delaware's District III and will be competing in pool play, which began on Monday, August 1 and runs through the end of the week in Roxana.

The field is comprised of six teams (15-16 year old girls) from the United States, as well as teams representing Canada, Asia-Pacific, Europe-Africa and Latin America.

The 2022 tournament wraps up with the championship game at 7 p.m., on Sunday, August 7, which will be televised nationally on ESPN.

Outdoor Fine Art & Fine Craft Show (August 6-7, 13-14)

The 49th installment of this event will be taking place over the next two weekends on the grounds of the Rehoboth Art League in Henlopen Acres.

The group's signature summertime event will feature more than 100 regional artisans over both days of the show.

Hours are Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It is a rain or shine event.

White Marlin Open (August 8-12)

The world's largest billfish tournament returns to Ocean City for the 49th time next week for five days of competition on the water, with $1 million in prize money again up for grabs.

If you're not heading out yourself in search of that record catch, plan on visiting Harbour Island on 14th Street and the Bay every day from 4 to 9:15 p.m., as anglers come in to have their catches officially weighed and entered into the log.

This event is always open to everyone, including both professional and amateur anglers, and there are no age restrictions.
