‘The Jewish Cookbook’ online author talk set Nov. 19
The Lewes Public Library and Seaside Jewish Community will welcome co-authors Ilan Stavans and Margaret Boyle for a presentation about “Sabor Judío: The Jewish Mexican Cookbook” at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 19, via Zoom.
The book features 100 deeply personal recipes enjoyed by Mexican Jews around the world. Stavans and Boyle each bring a family tradition to this new cookbook celebrating the delicious fusion of two culinary traditions. Stavans is from a Sephardic background and grew up in Mexico City’s Jewish community while Boyle grew up in Los Angeles in an Ashkenazi-Mexican family.
“Food is such an important part of cultural memory, and migration involves honoring the old but incorporating the new. That is what this fusion cookbook does,” said Enid Zafran, SJC book group leader. “For those who like Mexican food, here is a new presentation of favorite ingredients. And for those who like Jewish cooking, there is a comfort food aspect to having a cherished dish with a new twist.”
