Andy Gorlich, 31, played lacrosse at Dover High then settled into work before taking to the roads when he reached 50 pounds over ideal playing weight. He had no running background, but he has some natural talent.
He won the 5th Annual Oy Vey 5K April 2 at the Seaside Jewish Community Center in 19:43, followed by Moiber Rivera, 29, 20:42; Rick Poppleton, 64, 21:21; Michael Fraundorfer, 39, 21:32; and Clifton Anderson, 62, 21:41.
Cat Volmer, 33, was the female winner in 22:58, followed by Mardiny Ung, 50, 24:51; Jessica Lang, 24, 25:44; Kerry Meisten, 25, 27:02; and Jane Boyd, 27:24.
The next Seashore Striders event is the Georgetown Run/Walk for Color 5K at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 8, followed by the Seashore Classic Half Marathon, Two-person Relay and 5K Run at 8 a.m., Sunday, April 9. That event is part of the Irish Eyes 6-Pack Series.
