‘Tea for Three’ one-woman performance set March 2
The Lewes Public Library’s Spoken Word Society will present actress Elaine Bromka for a free performance of her popular one-woman show “Tea for Three: Lady Bird, Pat & Betty,” at 5 p.m., Saturday, March 2, in the Lewes Elementary School auditorium, 820 Savannah Road, Lewes.
Particularly pertinent in an era of heightened politics, “Tea for Three” humanizes the political scene with a whimsical and deeply moving story, and a behind-the-scenes look at first ladies Lady Bird Johnson, Pat Nixon and Betty Ford. It is a tale of a remarkable trio in a most unusual job – and 80 minutes of heartwarming delight.
Seating is limited, and registration is required. To register, go to lewes.lib.de.us or call 302-645-2733.
“A few years ago, I got to see these three remarkable women come to vivid life in a performance by the incredible Elaine Bromka. Ever since, we’ve worked to bring this terrific piece to Lewes,” said David White, Lewes Public Library Spoken Word Society volunteer artistic director. “The community is in for a compelling and memorable evening of great theater.”
With over 30 years of film, television, Broadway and Off-Broadway experience, Bromka starred as eight first ladies opposite Rich Little in the PBS show “The Presidents.” Intrigued by their stories, she went on to create this one-woman show with playwright Eric H. Weinberger.
The Lewes Spoken Word Society celebrates the tradition and artistry of oral storytelling through lectures, performances, discussions, demonstrations and other publicly shared experiences.
