The 13th Ivy 5K took place June 28 under sunny skies and breezy conditions. Starting and finishing at the Ivy Restaurant in Dewey Beach, this event is sponsored by the Highway One Group and Bud Light.
Finishing first overall was Andy Jakubowitch of Dover, De. in a time of 18:48. Eileen Davis from Frankford, De. won the ladies' overall title in a time of 21:41, finishing 14th out of 212 participants. Masters winners were Bruce Halpin from Ashburn, Va., fourth overall, in 19:52 and Susan Murray from Hauppauge, N.Y., in 22:52, 22nd overall.
The youngest male participant was Andrew Kennedy of Arlington, Va., finishing 63rd in 25:54 and Gavrielle Griffin from Bethesda, Md., finishing 181st in 41:31.
One age-group course record was set by 75-year-old Henry Gunther of Wilmington, De., finishing 91st overall in 27:43.
It is always nice to share good news, and Erin Graves showed race organizers her engagement ring from men's overall winner Andy Jakubowitch.
Another good story was having Tara Cavaselis join the race series again after the birth of her child. Tara won the women's 35-39 age group in 22:04.
The winning beach house team competition was won by the Certified Running Nuts.
The Ivy 5K is also host to the annual Ms. Ten Sisters contest. This year's crown will be worn by Cindy Redefer. Jack Vassalotti will be joining her as the men's Prince of Ten Sisters winner.
