2018 Cape Soccer Camp scores with future stars

Attendance has doubled since last year
August 2, 2018

The Cape Soccer Camp was back at Cape Henlopen High School for the third straight summer July 30 to Aug. 3, where 30 campers learned the finer points of the game from a quality staff of coaches and high school players. The curriculum included instruction in the areas of passing and receiving, possession, finishing, defending and goalkeeping.

“I’m very pleased with how the camp is running,” said Cape head coach and camp director Patrick Kilby. “We have doubled our numbers from last year from 16 to 31. I’m even more pleased in our Cape soccer players. They are taking their jobs as camp coaches very seriously. They are providing great examples of what it takes to be a Cape athlete. Colleen Donohoe is a college-bound soccer player attending Mount Aloysius College; Connor Hochrein is an example of a player who made varsity as a freshman, and Dane Palmer and Luke Johnson are examples of multi-sport athletes. In addition to soccer, Dane is on the golf team and Luke is our state champion second baseman. Forrest Dotterer is providing excellent goalkeeping instruction. Jonna Mobius is an example of a JV player working toward a varsity spot in the spring.”

Kilby would like to thank Chelsea King and King’s Ice Cream, John Lehne and 302 Bicycles, and Henlopen Soccer Club for their donations to the camp.

“The future of Cape soccer looks bright, as these campers are very talented athletes and are working hard each day to become better soccer players.”

Proceeds from the camp help defray costs for the boys’ soccer squad’s overnight trip Chestertown, Md., where they will play on the Washington College campus against Gunston Day School. They will tour the campus and meet the coaching staff of the men’s soccer team.
