After trip to Maine, Biden expected to be in town Nov. 3

President and first lady will likely be at North Shores home through Monday, Nov. 6

For the second time in three weekends, it appears that President Joe Biden is going to be spending a few days at his North Shores home, just north of Rehoboth Beach.

According to a Daily Guidance and Press Schedule issued Nov. 2 by the White House, the president and first lady are expected to be in Rehoboth around 9:40 p.m., Friday, Nov. 3.

The daily guidance also says the Bidens are traveling to Lewiston, Maine, earlier in the day, to pay respects to the victims of the mass shooting that took place Oct. 25. They’re expected to also meet with first responders, nurses and others on the front lines of the response.

It’s not exactly clear how long the Bidens will be in town, but a flight restriction notice issued Nov. 3 by the Federal Aviation Administration has restrictions in place through 1:15 p.m., Monday, Nov. 6.

Here’s a list of security measures taken when Biden is in town:

  • Gordons Pond users could see restrictions. The park’s parking lot is just around the corner from Biden’s home and is used as a landing site for Marine One.
  • If Biden decides to drive, which he did a few times this summer, motorists on Route 1 should be prepared for delays. By road, there’s really only one way to his house – southbound on Route 1, then through Rehoboth Beach. As the presidential motorcade makes its way south, police and state personnel sit at all intersections blocking traffic.
  • The FAA’s temporary flight restrictions limit use of the airspace – including drones – from Dover south to Ocean City, Md., and west to the Maryland border.
  • The Coast Guard establishes security zones in the ocean area immediately in front of North Shores beach and in the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal.

Biden typically doesn’t do too much when he’s in town for these long weekends – a bike ride on the Gordons Pond Trail, a walk on the beach, mass at St. Edmond Catholic Church. However, last time he was in town, he and Jill ate at Egg in Rehoboth Beach, and they dined at Matt’s Fish Camp outside Lewes this summer.
