Albert Tankard, Lewes Dairy retiree

November 18, 2020

Albert Tankard was born to the late William Henry and Delia Ann Tankard June 8, 1929, in Exmore, Va. He was affectionately known as “Ebby” by his family and friends. He entered into eternal rest Thursday, Oct. 22, 2020, after a long illness.

Albert married Judith Beatrice Showell June 9, 1973, one day after his 44th birthday.

At an early age, Albert moved from his hometown of Exmore to Rehoboth. There he was able to find better employment opportunities. He was employed at Lewes Dairy Market for 30 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his family when he visited his hometown. He enjoyed watching sports, “The Young and Restless,” the “Price is Right” and, in his younger years, “Gunsmoke” was one of his favorite westerns. His favorite foods were fish, oysters, crab cakes and ham.

Albert was preceded in death by his wife Judy; daughters Alberta McHellen and Brenda Person; and his 12 siblings, William Henry Tankard Jr., Bessie Mae Tankard, Ethel Tankard, Virginia Parham, Lucille Tankard, Mary Gunter, Lillian Davis, Ruth Kellam, Sarah “Janie” Giddins, Sadie Harmon, Lindsey Tankard and James Tankard.

He leaves to cherish his memories three sons, Troy Maull, Bill Gibbs and Stanley Glasgow; two daughters, Bessie Mae and Tanya McHellen; 25 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Amelia Tankard, Jane Showell and Delma Lott; six brothers-in-law, Charles, Gregory, George, Timothy and James Long and Kemp Brittingham; and a host of nieces and nephews.
