Alex Zarow, lifelong pharmacist

April 30, 2025

Clifford Alex Zarow, 77, of Milton, passed away Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Bayhealth Hospital in Milford, following complications related to lung cancer treatment.

Born May 6, 1947, in Baltimore, Md., Alex was the beloved son of the late Mervin and Edith (Goldberg) Zarow.

He was a proud graduate of Temple University Class of 1972, where he earned his degree in pharmacy. Alex later completed his MBA at Johns Hopkins University in 2000.

Alex dedicated his life to the profession of pharmacy, serving the community for over 50 years and receiving recognition from the governor of Maryland. From 2001-20, he served as director of pharmacy at Bayhealth Medical Center. Even after retiring, Alex continued practicing part-time at Beebe Healthcare until his passing.

Alex married Ayn Hoyt Aug.14, 1992, in the British Virgin Islands.

Alex was a lifelong tennis player and sports enthusiast, an occasional scuba diver, recreational sailor, and former member of Rehoboth Bay Sailing Association. In recent years, he found joy as a radio-controlled airplane modeler and pilot, proudly flying with the Sussex Aeromodelers Association.

Alex is survived by his wife, Ayn Hoyt; his sister, Robin Michaels and niece Holly; his daughter, Jessica Zarow; and his granddaughters, Alexis and Natalie.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date, likely in September or October. Details will be shared once arrangements are finalized.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Alex’s name be made to House of Hope Animal Rescue, hohanimalrescue.org/donate. This is the rescue organization from which he adopted his current dogs, Archie and Guinevere; or Special Olympics Delaware, sode.org/donate, the beneficiary of his frequent Lewes Polar Bear plunges.
