Alfred W. Johnson Jr., Naval engineer
Alfred W. Johnson Jr., 87, of Millsboro, passed away Monday, March 6, 2017, at his home. He was born Monday, Jan. 6, 1930, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late Alfred W. Sr. and Harriet (Bachman) Johnson.
Mr. Johnson was a U.S. Naval Academy graduate and a proud U.S. Navy veteran, serving four years as a line officer. He studied naval science during his active duty, concentrating on electrical and mechanical engineering. After his service time, Mr. Johnson had a lifelong career in the electrical engineering field, ultimately owning his own consulting business, Johnson Associates. He was a member of St. George's Chapel, where he served as treasurer, and was a member of both the chapel committee and the cemetery committee.
In his spare time, Mr. Johnson enjoyed boating, fishing and golfing. More than anything, however, he cherished the time spent with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and he will be genuinely missed by all who were blessed to know him.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his beloved wife, Lois Johnson of Millsboro; his son, David W. Johnson of Boyertown, Pa.; his daughter, Patty A. Mullen and her husband Donald of Gap, Pa.; and his grandchildren: Kathryn, Timothy, Benjamin, Britni and Chad.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, March 18, at St. George's Chapel, 20271 Beaver Dam Road, Harbeson. Arrangements handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mr. Johnson's memory to St. George's Episcopal Church Women Scholarship Fund for Girls, All Saints' Parish Office, 18 Olive Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971.
