AMVETS Post 2 celebrates Memorial Day

June 3, 2021

AMVETS Post 2 in Long Neck celebrated Memorial Day with a wreath-laying and flag-raising in honor of fellow veterans who lost their lives serving their country.

Post 2 Commander Dave Heffline said, “Those of us who are veterans who survived have an eternal bond with all other veterans who preceded us.”

The celebration, which featured about 40 AMVETS members and their families, featured a table set for one for those missing in action or prisoners of war. There was a salute to those who did not return home from war followed by the playing of “Taps.”

Former Post Commander Tom Jones gave the keynote address, saying, “We should all look in our hearts. We may not only find our heroes, but we can examine what kind of country we live in. No matter what critics say about America, can a nation that produces such remarkable men and women be anything but a force for good? War is not always the best policy, but the heroes that wars produce are the best of Americans.”
