Andrew Alexander Ayers, had magnetic personality

April 27, 2021

Andrew Alexander Ayers of Milton went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, April 8, 2021, at Bayhealth Kent General Hospital, Dover, at the age of 58.  Andrew, also affectionately known as “Slim or Big Slim,” was born Dec. 10, 1962, to Margaret Ayers of Lewes and Andrew Knox of Harbeson.  He attended school in the Cape Henlopen School District.

Andrew was a funloving and good-humored person who was admired and loved by many.  He had the unique ability to inspire and touch so many lives with his magnetic personality.  People of all ages, especially children, were naturally drawn to him.  He truly loved his family, and adored his nieces and nephews with whom he had a special bond.  Unselfishly, he cared and shared his earthly goods with his family and friends. Everyone who knew him has a “Slim” story to share.  And it’s a true story!  Though we feel the loss of his passing, his life and legacy leaves us with so many precious memories to be cherished forever.  He is to be remembered for his laughter, humor, love and good-natured banter.  He loved to tease and generally have a good time with family and friends.

He loved sports.  He was a Las Vegas (formerly Oakland) Raiders football fan.  In his younger years, he played baseball and football, and was known for hitting the baseball out of the park.  That was the sure and safe way for him to make it to the first base.

It is no secret that he loved to eat and cherished many home-cooked  meals.  He often waited for his sister to leave for work so he could raid her refrigerator and pantry.  He looked forward to Christmas cookies which he ate two to three months after the holidays.

He was preceded in death by his adopted stepfather, Robert P. Ayers; brother, Robert Knox; maternal grandparents, Theodore Perry Sr. and Naomi Perry; and paternal grandmother, Hilda Knox.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories, one son, Andrew Edwards (Brittany) of Long Neck; a loving mother, Margaret Ayers of Lewes; father Andrew Knox of Harbeson; stepmother Juanita Knox; one brother, Purnell Ayers of Camden; sisters, Faye Smith of Milton, the Rev. Sonja Ayers of Lincoln, Paulette and Amber Ayers of Lewes, and Sheena (Rodney) Frazier of Rehoboth; two grandchildren, Andrew Edwards Jr. and Iyla Edwards;  aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held Saturday, April 24, at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, Millsboro.
