Reward offered for information on dog found dead in Canary Creek

March 31, 2023

The Delaware Division of Public Health Office of Animal Welfare’s Delaware Animal Services is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest of the person who killed a dog by throwing it in Canary Creek.

Lewes police found the dog March 24 in the 800 block of Canary Creek attached to a sledgehammer. The dog is a black and brown male, possibly a terrier mix, about 40 pounds, officials said, and it had no microchip and other identification. Officils said they do not know how long the dog had been in the water.

Animal welfare in coordination with Delaware Crimestoppers is offering $1,000 for tips that lead to an arrest in this animal cruelty case. Tips may be made anonymously. Anyone with any information can contact DAS at 302-255-4646 or online at animalservices.delaware.gov.
