Anthony Longo, devoted family man

August 1, 2022

Anthony Longo, 74, of Rehoboth Beach, formerly of Philadelphia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Thursday, July 28, 2022, following a hard-fought battle with leukemia and heart disease.  He was born Aug. 8, 1947, in Philadelphia, Pa.

Anthony made a career as a carpet and flooring installer, operating Tony’s Carpet Repairs and Binding, and remained a devoted employee of the Rehoboth Mall until the day he passed away.  He was a craftsman who enjoyed arts and crafts as an outlet for his creativity and was a lover of all animals, be they from land or sea. Anthony remained loyal to his Philadelphia roots, cheering on his beloved Phillies and Eagles during every game. He operated Dee’s Bait & Tackle in Philadelphia with his family before moving to the beach. He loved everything coastal living had to offer, especially fishing and being on the water.

Above all, he cherished time with those he held most dear.  Anthony was a loving and devoted family man.  Loved by many, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him, particularly his feathered and 4-pawed friends. While residing in Rehoboth Beach, Anthony made many friends, whom he considered his second family. He will be remembered by those who loved him for his mischievous smile, sense of humor and the twinkle in his eye.

Anthony was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lois Jones; and his stepbrother, Henry Jones Jr.  He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Dolores Longo of Rehoboth Beach;  his son, Marc Messner of Rehoboth Beach; his daughter, Heather Longo of Mt. Laurel, N.J.;  his aunt, Dorothea Clevenger, RN, and her family; and his many animals.

Services will be held privately.  A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.

Final care has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Leukemia Research Foundation, 191 Waukegan Road, Ste. 105, Northfield, IL  60093, or to any animal rescue of choice.
