Arconada wins ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony

Argentina native takes singles and doubles titles

Usue Maitane Arconada, 20, won the ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony June 9 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over 17-year-old Natasha Subhash of Fairfax, Va. Arconada was the No. 1 singles seed. She lives in the United States, but came from Buenos Aires, Argentina. She also won the doubles championship with partner Hayley Carter. It was the ninth annual ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open.

It took just one hour and 15 minutes for Arconada to take the title. She is one of only two players to win the tournament’s singles and doubles titles in the same year.

The tournament offers pro women tennis players world ranking points and a share of the event’s $25,000 prize money.

 

Dan has worked for the Cape Gazette for more than 30 years as a photographer and reporter, covering high school sports and happenings around eastern Sussex County. He won a photography award from the National Newspaper Association, and numerous awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association. A Delaware native, Dan graduated from Cape in 1972 and returned as a teacher and coach in the 1980s. He retired from the classroom in 2016. He was inducted into Cape High’s Legends Stadium in 2016. In his spare time, Dan enjoys spending time with his wife, two sons, grandchildren and dogs.
