Ardeth Anna Lodge Savage, retired Montessori teacher

Ardeth Anna Lodge Savage, 92, formerly of Lewes and Wilmington, died Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, of natural causes.

Ardeth was born July 12, 1930, in Wilmington, daughter of the late Arthur E. Lodge Jr. and the late Elizabeth Neeson Lodge.

Professionally, Ardeth was a Montessori teacher, having studied under the Association Montessori Internationale curriculum in Germantown, Pa., and received her certification from Dr. Mario Montessori, son of the founder, Dr. Maria Montessori. She received her associate of arts degree and bachelor of arts degree from Wilmington University. After beginning as a Montessori aide at Ursuline Academy, Ardeth founded her own school, The Children's House, in Rockford Park, Wilmington, in 1978. 

In addition to her parents, Ardeth was preceded in death by her husband of 70-plus years, F. Thomas Savage; her son, Thomas R. Savage; her grandson, Brent Thompson; sister, Barbara Burchell; and brother, Arthur E. Lodge III. Ardeth is survived by her daughters, Diane Savage Thompson (David Ludema) of Park City, Utah, and Linda Savage-Young (J. Young) of Wilmington. She is also survived by eight grandchildren: Greer Thompson, Drew Thompson, Wade Thompson (Danielle), Kaitlin Young, Trey Young, Sarah Savage, Matt Savage (Lauren) and Robert Savage; and 11 great-grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her half-brother, John Lodge; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
