Arthur 'Art' Shapiro, retired attorney

Arthur J. "Art" Shapiro, 83, of Ocean View, formerly of Bowie, Md., and Brooklyn, N.Y., passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Atlantic General Hospital, Berlin, Md.

Art was born in Brooklyn in February 1933 to the late Julius and Esther Shapiro. Art retired as an attorney with the federal government, working briefly for the immigration and naturalization service as well as having a lengthy career with the Department of Health and Human Services.

Art was an avid fisherman and photographer. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends participating in spirited conversations about fishing, politics, and current events.

He is survived by his loving wife, Pearl Shapiro; a daughter, Amy Shapiro (husband Roger Mingo) of Washington, D.C.; a son, Matthew Shapiro (wife Rochelle Figueroa) of Coral Springs, Fla.; stepsons Wayne (Donna) Stahlmann of Goshen, N.Y., and Scott (Jackie) Stahlmann of Ramsey N.J.; a brother, Seymour Shapiro of Matawan, N.J.; as well as grandchildren David Shapiro, Ben (Victoria Hellmann), Erik, Becky (Dutch MacDonald), Jessica (Scott Williamson) and Bret Mingo; Jane, Christopher and William Stahlmann, and Josiah Quintal.  Art is also survived by Monica Hirsch, a beloved niece, and her family.

A private burial for family and friends will be held at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery near Millsboro.
