Arts Warming Hearts program donates to domestic violence survivors

The Greater Millsboro Art League, Ocean Waves Quilt Guild, and Millsboro Police Department are collaborating through the Arts Warming Hearts program to raise awareness and provides quilts to survivors of domestic violence. The Greater Millsboro Art League began the outreach the beginning of February and the response was great. The first donation of nearly 20 quilts was Feb. 18 at GMAL.
“With this program we want to show survivors that people who don’t even know care,” Debra Doucette, GMAL president said. Girl Scouts will participate in a sew-day to contribute to the program, she said.
Detective Robert Legates sees this as a team approach to assist domestic violence survivors. “While detectives investigate, Shea Wise consults with them, and this program will provide warm quilts as a comfort to them,” he said.
“When they receive the quilt the only thing they will know is that someone in the community cares about them,” said Skip Claiborne, member of the Ocean Waves Quilt Guild.
To donate a quilt drop it off at GMAL, 203 Main St., Millsboro. For information go to https://www.millsboroartleague.org.
