Ashley Furio 5K to benefit Children’s Beach House Oct. 14

September 29, 2023

Children’s Beach House will host the 7th Annual Ashley Nicole Furio Memorial 5K Run & Crooked Crawl Saturday, Oct. 14, at Crooked Hammock Brewery, Lewes.

Event proceeds support CBH’s Margaret H. Rollins Child Development Center, a preschool serving 3- and 4-year-olds. The run and its accompanying family festival are named to honor Ashley Furio, who passed away at the age of 25 in 2014. By age 25, Furio had graduated from the Delaware State Fire School and was certified as an EMT-Basic by the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians. Then she volunteered those skills with the Mill Creek Fire Company and the Lewes Fire Department, all while she was earning a certified nursing assistant diploma and later while enrolled in nursing school.

Because their daughter was so engaged in community service, Rose and David Furio wanted the run in Ashley’s memory to benefit a cause they knew she would support, and they knew she would love the work of Children’s Beach House.

The day offers something for everyone. Runners hit the road and enjoy a 5K race through the beautiful streets of Lewes. Non-runners can sign up for the Crooked Crawl and get all the same race-day fun and swag without having to actually run. Children can take part in the Kiddie Run, and enjoy crafts, games, face painting, a magician, an arts and crafts booth, and The Crooked Hammock’s play area. Everyone can enjoy the post-race party with live music, food, brews, awards, a few special auction items and a raffle.
