Athletes to End Alzheimer's 5K a success

On an unusually pleasant day in August, the Athletes to End Alzheimer’s 5K Run/Walk had nearly 700 runners and walkers participate in the inaugural event. The event benefited Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter. It was produced by Focus Multisports, and the race route showcased the beauty of Bethany Beach and finished on the iconic boardwalk.
Michael Loftus, of Loftus Wealth Strategies, a wealth management and financial planning business in Millville, was the event organizer.
“We hoped to raise $15,000 from the race for treatment, research and support for those affected by Alzheimer’s and their caregivers,” said Loftus. “And we did it! In fact, more than $18,000 was raised. Most sincere thanks to our sponsors, Anne Powell Group at Resort Quest, Baja Beach House Grill, Beebe Healthcare, Brandywine Senior Living, Creative Resource Group, D3 Corp., Law Offices of Scott & Shuman, Heather’s HomeWorks, Home Instead Senior Care, The Rookery, and the Osher Learning Center, the more than 100 volunteers, all of the runners and walkers, and the town of Bethany Beach. I want to thank everyone for helping to support this important charity.”
According to the Alzheimer’s Association website, Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior; the life-interfering symptoms worsen over time and there is no cure.
