Owen Daminger
Now a junior baseball player at Misericordia University, Owen was a junior during Cape’s state championship win in 2022. Later, he was an MAC Sports Academic Honor Roll student on the 2024 Misericordia team that won a D3 National Championship. Owen also ran indoor track at Cape hitting low 50s for 400 meters. His mom is Jodi Lobiondo, and his uncle Jon was a two-time Cape wrestling state champion. Owen is an infielder for the Cougars who sometimes comes on in relief. In 2025, he led the team with 22 hit-by-pitches, almost as good as an actual hit. Owen played in 41 games and started 37 in 2025. He batted .325 with 37 hits, 32 runs and 24 RBIs, and he registered a .478 on-base percentage with 41 total bases, four doubles and 16 walks. In the 2026 season, Owen has started all 26 games, batting .284, is 19-20 in steal attempts and once again leads his team with 18 hit-by-pitches. The Cougars are 19-7 on the season. Owen is the quintessential all-around academic-athlete and great teammate.
Josh Reinhold
Josh was the winning pitcher for Cape in the 2022 state championship 4-1 win over Appoquinimink, allowing one run on four hits over 6 1/3 innings. Brogan Evick (coach’s kid) got the save with a bases-loaded strikeout. Josh was a first-team all-state shortstop. Josh was also a top-of-the-line swimmer and academic all-star. Josh was on Cape’s school-record 200 medley and freestyle relay teams. Now a senior at Christopher Newport, he has been the starting shortstop for the Captains since he arrived on campus. Christopher Newport beat Salisbury 2-0 April 4, with Josh scoring the first run of the game. He is batting .348 on the season including a home run and four doubles. CNU will be in the hunt this postseason for the D3 national tournament. Like Owen Daminger, Josh is the all-around academic-athletic kid who is a great teammate. But Josh has quicker feet and has only been hit by pitches four times.
Natalie Schneider
A Cape senior cross country and track athlete, about whom cross country coach Matt Lindell said, “A top 10 all-time XC time of 19:49. An awesome student who took my AP U.S. history class. She is going to the University of Tennessee. She was all-conference first team and all-county XC.” Natalie said, “In the summer before seventh grade (2020), I had scoliosis surgery, which definitely made it difficult for me to get into running my freshman year of cross country, even though I was fully recovered from the surgery. But because of all of the training and discipline that cross country taught me, I was able to get my 3,200 time down to a 13:08 freshman year, and now my senior year down to a 12:25. I also did swim team my freshman, sophomore and junior years, but switched to doing indoor track for my senior year, when I got my 1,600 time down to 5:41 at states. I have goals for the outdoor season to hopefully get under 12 minutes for the 3,200 and to get close to a 5:30 1,600 time!” Natalie plans to major in chemical engineering with a minor in nutrition.
Jurnee White
A three-sport unsung athlete and person, Jurnee was a field hockey manager on the 2024 state championship team and a player on the 2026 Henlopen Conference Champion girls’ basketball team, and this spring, the senior is a member of the girls’ track team. Field hockey coach Kate Austin said, “Jurnee is a great person who is all about doing what is best for the team. She is always positive and supportive of her teammates.“ Basketball coach Ron Dukes said, “Jurnee is an awesome young lady. She works hard, listens and is an amazing teammate. She will do what is needed to help the team succeed. I loved having Jurnee as part of our team this year and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.” Jurnee is a sprinter on the track team for the 100 meters and 4-by-100-meter relay. Jurnee’s mom is Chaundra White, a Cape basketball player from the class of 1990.
