Eve Bohinski
This Delmarva Christian senior led the Royals to 33-28 victory over Milford in the season-opener Dec. 3. She paced her team with 24 points, five rebounds and one block. She tied for second on the team with four steals. Eve is a multi-sport athlete, collecting all-conference honors in field hockey this past fall. She will lace up her cleats for the softball team after the basketball season. She carries a 3.6 GPA while taking science classes others are not taking, as she would like to eventually become a nurse. She remembers the work the nurses did when her sister was born, and knew then she wanted do that for a living.
Grant Conway
The MVP of the unified flag football state championship game put on a show on Black Friday, as he evaded and sprinted past a quality Caesar Rodney defense. Four touchdowns were scored by the Cape senior, and he converted a pair of two-point conversions for 28 total points on offense. He also intercepted a pass deep in Vikings’ territory. The laxer’s dodging ability was on full display as he created the time needed for his teammates to get open. He won the Spirit Award for the varsity lacrosse team this past spring, and his encouragement of others continued on the unified flag football field.
Austin Hastings
One of the several unsung heroes on the Cape unified flag football championship team, this junior was a consistent, positive presence on offense for the Vikings. While snaps can be difficult in flag football, Austin reliably put the ball right into his quarterbacks’ hands before releasing into a shadow route, providing the quarterback with a security blanket. He went down in the title game and had to miss a few series, but the tough kid suppressed the pain and returned to the field despite the snag and bitter cold. His care for his teammates and opponents is one of the many reasons this young man deserved a championship.
Mason Trench
Last spring, Mason was awarded defensive MVP award for his work between the pipes for the Cape boys’ lacrosse team, and during Cape unified flag football team’s state championship, the senior proved he has a firm understanding of defense on the gridiron too. Mason opened the title game with an interception and effectively ended the contest with a bicep interception before icing the game with the final touchdown of the season for the team. The team captain showed a good balance of challenging his teammates when they needed to lock in and celebrating their accomplishments when it was time to hype them up.
