Athletes of the Week July 13

July 13, 2018
Tyler Jacona

A rising seventh-grader at Mariner Middle School, this Milton Major All-Star delivered with a three-run homer in the first inning of Milton’s 8-2 win over Millsboro July 11. "It really got the guys fired up," said Milton manager Paris Mitchell. He also pitched in relief and scored three runs in the Milton win over Laurel. "Tyler is a very important player for us," Mitchell said. “He bats third and protects Gage [Joseph], who bats second, and he's been that protector during the playoffs. He's done everything we've expected of him. Tyler would be the best player on most teams in this tournament." Tyler plays basketball and baseball for Mariner Middle and is a member of the Bagel Bombers and Delaware Aces travel teams. When not playing baseball, you can find him hanging at the pool or swimming at the beach.

Gage Joseph

This powerful right-hander for the Milton Major All-Stars has hit two home runs in as many games, leading his team into the third round of the District 3 tournament. He also struck out eight Laurel batters in the first round, pitching three no-hit innings. “Gage is our leader on this team," said manager Paris Mitchell. "He handles pressure well. He made every play that came to him tonight, and he has had great at-bats. That's what we expect from him, and that's what he gives us." A rising seventh-grader at Mariner, Gage is a student in the AVID class and gets good grades in all of his academic classes. He also plays for the Bagel Bombers’ Hocker U12 travel team. When not playing on the diamond, you can find him practicing his hitting in the family barn with his Pop Pop.

Grant Parker

A rising seventh-grader at Beacon Middle School, this 12-year-old Major All-Star went 3-for-3 and scored a run in Lewes/Rehoboth’s 4-3 victory over Georgetown July 10. "Grant is a very determined athlete," said Lewes/Rehoboth manager Billy Hocker. "He comes out and plays all-in the entire time we have him with us and doesn't ever take a play off. He just keeps going. He had two singles and a double tonight and set up the winning run." Grant plays for the Beacon Vikings during the school year, the Lewes Phillies during the regular Little League season, and he is also a member the Bagel Bombers travel team. When not playing baseball, you can find him playing video games.

Kam Trammell

With the game tied at 3-3, the bases loaded and two out in the bottom of the sixth inning, this 11-year-old Lewes/Rehoboth Major All-Star slammed a 3-2 Georgetown fastball into right-center to drive in the winning run and send his team into the next round of the District 3 tournament. "Kam is your all-around athlete," said Lewes/Rehoboth manager Billy Hocker. "He kept his composure tonight, going 3-2 and coming up big getting that line drive to win the game." Kam plays community football, basketball for the Delaware Running Rebels team out of Milford, and travel baseball for the Henlopen Wave out of Sussex County. When not playing for the Rehoboth Beach Major League Yankees during the Little League season, he volunteers in the Epworth United Methodist Park concession stand.
