Jordan Banning
This rising junior at Sussex Central High School quieted the bats of the Millsboro All-Star team, allowing no hits over 3.1 innings, striking out six batters for the Georgetown/Cape Senior League squad. He helped himself at the plate too, going 2-for-4 and driving in three runs. A Golden Knights honor roll student, Jordan plays on the Delmarva Aces travel team out of Ocean City, Md. "Jordan really knows the game," said Georgetown/Cape manager Penuel Barrett. "He is always positive, and he can play any position on the field." "I love baseball," said Banning, who practices his craft every chance he gets. He’s really into fitness and spends countless hours in the weight room, but still finds a little time to go fishing.
Roselyn Mushrush
Just a rising kindergarten student, this 5-year-old hockey player proved that she can mix it up with the big girls on the turf of Champions Stadium at the Champions Field Hockey Camp this week. "Roselyn is very coachable," said her camp coach Anna Stancofski. "She listens well to instruction and is excited to learn new skills and play up with the big kids." She also plays midfield for lacrosse. She gets her field hockey prowess from her mom, Sarah Ritthaler Mushrush, who was a star player for the Vikings and graduated in 2003, and her lacrosse skills from her dad, David, who was a standout defenseman at Wesley College. Roselyn loves her little brother, Graham, and can be found playing on her swing in her spare time.
Brian Sponaugle
A rising freshman at Cape Henlopen High School, this honor roll student is a baseball player through and through. He helped lead the Georgetown/Cape Senior League All-Stars to a 19-0 win over Millsboro June 27 in Seaford. Spoon started at third base and finished the game behind the plate. He also went 2-for-3 and picked up two stolen bases while knocking in three runs. "Brian is a very positive player," said Georgetown/Cape manager Penuel Barrett. Brian also plays for the Bagel Bombers Rauch travel squad. He leaves behind a stellar career at Mariner Middle, where he played basketball and baseball. When not on the baseball diamond, he loves to fish.
Jacqueline Thomas
A two-year veteran field hockey player, Jacqueline made a positive impression on the coaches at the Champions Hockey Camp at Cape Henlopen High School's Champions Stadium this week. A rising honor roll eighth-grader at Sussex Academy, she always puts out the effort needed to be a standout player. "Jacqueline is a hard worker who sets a great example for her peers," said her camp coach Kaylee Truitt. "She listens to every instruction and puts out 100 percent all of the time. She is a pleasure to coach." Jacqueline splits her time between hockey and lacrosse, where she plays in the midfield for Atlantic Lacrosse and the Eastern Shore Lacrosse Club. When not on the turf with lax or field hockey, she loves spending time at the beach with her friends.
