Atlantic Fields should not be on Route 24

December 5, 2025

The Atlantic Fields mall proposed for Route 24 has become an issue with some confusion. The argument against Atlantic Fields was never if it should be built, but where. That is the debate.

Here’s why Route 24 is the last place Atlantic Fields should be built.

• Route 24 is an evacuation route

• In the past 20 years that I’ve lived here, the traffic on Route 24 has increased unbelievably. It is now about 18,000 cars per day, and with Atlantic Fields, it would increase to about 26,000 on an evacuation route!

• The mall would be next door to two schools – an elementary school and a middle school. Traffic in the morning and close of day and extracurricular activities will cause many delays

• Atlantic Fields would be surrounded by homes right across the street and very close to the developments of Belle Terre and Maplewood. Who wants to live right next to a mall more than half the size of the Christiana Mall?

• Did anyone consider the fact that most people shop online and receive their purchases the very next day?

As we know, much of our population consists of retirees, such as myself, who enjoy walking around malls for the fun of it. But not on Route 24!
