Augustine ‘Gus’ J. Mack Jr., longshoreman

Augustine "Gus" J. Mack Jr., 79, of Lewes passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2019, at Christiana Care Health Systems in Newark.  He was born Oct. 6, 1940, in Baltimore, Md., and raised in Locust Point, son of the late Augustine J. Sr. and Marguerite (Foster) Mack.

Gus was a proud veteran, having honorably served in the U.S. Army.  He built a career with the Steamship Trade Association as a longshoreman, retiring after 44 dedicated years. Gus was an avid sports fan, and especially enjoyed rooting for the Baltimore Ravens, his favorite team.  He was also a member of the Elks Lodge #2645 in Ocean City, Md. Above all, Gus cherished time with those he held most dear.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, brother and friend who was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Gus was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Joseph Mengele; and his sister-in-law, Irene "Toot" Mack. He is survived by his beloved wife of 13 years, Marian (Agro) Mack of Lewes;  his son, Mark Mack (Kathy) of Abingdon, Md.;  his stepson, Sean Ryan Swift (Nicole) of Glen Arm, Md.; his stepdaughters: Kimberly Ann Carroll (Steve) of Cape Coral, Fla., and Kristen Ramsey (Daniel) of Severna Park, Md.; his stepgrandchildren: Christopher Biederman, Ryan Cook, Meg Swift, Jamie Swift, Maddelyn Ramsey, Emma Ramsey, Jackson Ramsey, Brittany Couto (Paulo), Steven Carroll (Natalie) and Stephanie Carroll; his brother, Raymond Mack of Pasadena, Md.; his sister, Marilyn Mengele of Catonsville, Md.;  and many more close family members, including several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m., at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 1530 E. Fort Ave., #1598, Locust Point, Md.  Interment will be private.

Cremation arrangements were handled by Parsell Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
