Author Lauren Grodstein to speak at Lewes library Aug. 7
The Lewes Public Library, Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild and Browseabout Books will host author Lauren Grodstein for a discussion and signing of her new novel, “A Dog in Georgia,” at 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 7, at the library, 111 Adams Ave., Lewes, and online via Zoom.
In Grodstein’s tender, funny novel, Amy Webb, a former chef, wife, stepmother and skilled dog rescuer, has just discovered her husband has had yet another affair. Trapped in a stagnant marriage, she impulsively travels to Tbilisi in the republic of Georgia to find a missing dog she knows from YouTube. While there, Amy realizes she has spent a lifetime looking away from her own needs, and she is forced to confront what she really wants and how to finally find herself (and a dog).
Grodstein will be in conversation with Maribeth Fischer, author of “A Season of Perfect Happiness” and executive director of the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild. “Lauren is one of the most generous writers I know — generous in her willingness to share her time and talent with others, generous with her advice about all things writing,” said Fischer. “Perhaps what I love most about any conversation with Lauren Grodstein is her fierce and unwavering belief that writing itself is an act of generosity and risk. We'll also talk about how, as she says, ‘We must learn to take ourselves and our work seriously in a world that so often doesn’t care.’”
Grodstein directs the MFA program at Rutgers University - Camden. She is also the author of “We Must Not Think of Ourselves,” “Our Short History,” “The Explanation for Everything” and “A Friend of the Family.”
