The 8th Annual Back the Blue Caravan in support of area law enforcement officers will begin at 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 12, with visits to police departments near Route 1 in eastern Sussex County: Fenwick Island, South Bethany, Bethany Beach, Ocean View, Dewey Beach, Rehoboth Beach, Delaware State Police Troop 7, Lewes and Milton.
Area residents will gather to thank the dedicated men and women in uniform for their steadfast service to the community.
There will be three separate caravans over three days, and participants can sign up for any or all of them. The start time for each day will be 10 a.m., and the caravan trips will finish up between noon and 1 p.m., depending on number of stops.
The caravan for police agencies in central Sussex County will take place Wednesday, May 13, along Route 113, honoring Selbyville, Frankford, Dagsboro, Millsboro, DSP Troop 4, Probation & Parole, Georgetown and Ellendale.
Along Route 13 covering western Sussex County Thursday, May 14, the caravan will reach departments in Delmar, Laurel, Seaford, Bridgeville, Blades, DSP Troop 5 and Greenwood.
There will be a prize for the best-decorated car on each caravan route, decided by voting at each stop among the honorees. The car with the most votes overall on each caravan route wins.
Each car is asked to provide a thank-you note for each police department on the route and (optional) a lunch bag-size container of sealed snacks such as power bars, granola bars, healthy foods, etc. No unsealed snacks will be accepted. Multiple people in cars can split up the snack assignments.
To sign up, contact Drew Sunderlin, Back the Blue Caravan founder/chair, at 215-280-2783.
