Bargains on Broadkill and Great Duck Race to return Aug. 22

August 8, 2020

Milton Chamber of Commerce team members are happy to announce that Historic Milton’s Bargains on the Broadkill and the Great Duck Race will take place this year from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at riverfront Milton Memorial Park in downtown Milton.

What started years ago as a small yard sale for Milton residents has grown into a full-blown regional festival, featuring vendors of art, crafts, goodies and food. Music will be provided by popular DJ Sky Brady.

The festival’s signature event, the Great Duck Race on the Broadkill, offers attendees the opportunity to win cash prizes. Rubber duckies will be for sale in the weeks preceding the event and on the day of the event. The ducks will be released into the river at the end of the event, to comply with social distancing guidelines and eliminate overcrowding. As always, contestants do not have to be present to win. The race will be live-streamed on the chamber’s Facebook page and winners will be contacted the following day.

The entrant whose duck is the first to cross the finish line receives a cash prize of $500 from the Milton Chamber of Commerce. Additional winners will receive cash prizes donated by chamber members. To sponsor a duck or buy a duck, email chamber@historicmilton.com.

In order to host the festival in a safe and healthy manner, there are multiple guidelines that both vendors and attendees will be asked to follow.

For the full safety plan, go to historicmilton.com. Some highlighted rules are that all vendors and attendees over 12 years old must wear a mask inside the event area; attendees are asked to practice social distancing inside the event area; and high-touch surfaces such as the restrooms will be sanitized once every half-hour.

The chamber and event organizers appreciate everyone’s patience as they do everything they can to make sure this is a safe and fun festival. It may not be exactly the same as years past but it still can be a fun day of shopping for all attendees.

This year’s festival also features the 21st annual Irish Eyes Canoe & Kayak Race. For more information, go to irisheyespub.com.

Attendees are encouraged to stick around that evening and grab dinner at one of downtown Milton’s amazing restaurants such as Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant, Tequila Real or the Fox Hole. Then stick around until 7 p.m. to enjoy Parrot Beach: A Jimmy Buffet Tribute Band at the Milton Theatre.

Bargains on the Broadkill is hosted by the Milton Chamber of Commerce. This year’s sponsors include: CWS Promotions, Security Instruments, The Nook; Your Neighborhood Eatery, Techno Goober, Avery Hall Insurance, the Milton Arts Guild, the Mercantile and Irish Eyes Pub & Restaurant.
