Bayhealth festival of trees raises $11,000

February 13, 2023

Each year, Bayhealth holds a festival of trees at its hospitals in Milford and Dover.

A centerpiece for the holidays at Bayhealth, and an amazing fundraising event, the 2022 festival netted $11,100.

Funds are raised through the sale of tickets to enter a raffle to win a tree or wreath, displays which traditionally are decorated with themes or other great creativity by various teams and departments across Bayhealth. All proceeds raised support the employee assistance fund, which helps staff who encounter a crisis or face unexpected financial challenges.

The trees and wreaths are decorated the week of Thanksgiving, and ticket sales begin the day after Thanksgiving, while the raffle takes place just before Christmas. This year, a total of 117 trees and 15 wreaths were decorated and raffled off at the Bayhealth Hospital Sussex and Kent campuses.

“The camaraderie this festival brings is wonderful for all Bayhealth employees as well as the community,” said Jane Hewitt, Bayhealth’s lead patient advocate, who helps organize the festival of trees each year. “A huge thank you to plant operations and the community pharmacy staff for all their help.”

Additional departments that play a vital part in the event’s success are volunteer services, Bayhealth Foundation, and marketing and communications.

The foundation receives donations throughout the year for the employee assistance fund. Donors do not have to wait for the holidays to support the fund.
