Bayshore byway plan community events kick off Sept. 20

September 17, 2025

To make the Delaware Bayshore Byway a better place to explore for walkers, bikers and paddlers, Delaware Greenways is partnering with the Delaware Department of Transportation to kick off the Delaware Bayshore Byway Master & Marketing Plan.

Building on earlier work including the Bayshore Byway Corridor Management Plan, the master plan focuses more on fun and safe ways to get around without a car. The marketing plan aims to share more widely the things that make the Bayshore special, from beautiful scenery to singular attractions and recreational opportunities.

The Delaware Bayshore Byway spans approximately 100 miles through the First State’s coastal zone, tracing tidal shores, expansive salt marshes and working farmland. The corridor is anchored by 19 Discovery Zones, each highlighting unique natural, cultural and recreational assets collectively showcasing the Bayshore’s environmental significance and heritage character.

Funded by a Federal Highway Administration National Scenic Byways program grant, the study team is conducting a series of pop-up events to develop an understanding of the community’s needs, share details and collect feedback.

Members of the project team will be in the DelDOT Bike tent from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 20, at Milford Riverwalk Freedom Festival in downtown Milford.

At the University of Delaware Coast Day event, the team will be in the SeaGrant tent from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 5, at 1044 College Drive, Lewes.

For Bowers Heritage Day, study team members will be in the DelDOT Bike tent from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Waterman’s Park, Clifton Cubbage Drive, Frederica.
