Boys’ team wins 34-18
December 11, 2018

The Beacon Middle School girls’ basketball team opened its Dec. 10 game on fire and just got hotter from there, as they dominated Providence Creek Academy 52-7. The Lady Vikings fell 35-19 to Smyrna in their home opener Dec. 5.

Beacon was led by Diana Nauman with 11 points. Allison Head and Haley Archambault had eight points each. Lainey Shockro and Brianna Loper scored six and five points, respectively.

The Vikings took an 11-0 lead in the first quarter, and they continued to roll with a 15-point second quarter to go into halftime with a 26-4 advantage. They continued their dominance in the third quarter with 14 points and dropped 12 in the final stanza to put a 52-7 win in the book.

“We still have some work to do,” said Beacon coach Sam Purple. “But we saw a lot of good things during the game. A lot of what we worked on at practice last week paid off in the game, and I think the girls noticed it. It was fun to see the different rotation of girls we can use. We had some girls playing positions they normally don't play, and they were able to adjust quickly.”

The Beacon boys took a 22-point first-half lead and added 12 in the second half to garner a 34-18 win over the Saints. They dropped their Dec. 5 home opener 27-38 to the Eagles.

Dylan Fannin scored 10 to lead the Vikings’ scorers.

"It's always a great game when everybody gets to play, and today everybody got to play,” said Beacon coach Sean O’Grady. “I'm really proud of how this team cheers for each other and how we celebrate each others’ success. Our rotation guys did a great job getting us a lead, and the substitutes who came in did a great job handling the other team's pressure to bring home the victory.”

Beacon will travel to Seaford on Monday, Dec. 17, to take on the Blue Jays.
