Beacon Middle School holds toy drive for children’s hospital

After the Thanksgiving holiday, Beacon Middle School students began collecting toys for children at Nemours/A.I. duPont Children’s Hospital in Wilmington.

Students and families were asked to drop off a variety of toys to the school, including Lego sets, UNO cards, baby dolls and adult coloring books. Donations were given to the Nemours/A.I duPont Child Life Program, which helps patients adjust and cope with being in the hospital over the holiday season. It also aims to make patients’ experiences as positive as possible while they are staying at the hospital. Giving gifts during the holidays to the children helps them concentrate on being a kid, rather than being sick. It helps them and their families feel better about their current circumstances.

“It’s the time of year where giving to those in need is so important,” said Dave Frederick, Beacon Middle School principal. “I was fully on board and in support of doing a toy drive this year when it was presented to me, and I’m so proud of our Beacon families in all that they have donated this year!”

Students, parents and staff all contributed to the toy drive that wrapped up Dec. 21.
